His government name is Tim Bergling but millions of EDM fans call him Avicii . Born in Stockholm this master of the turntables, producer and remixer got his break while still a teenager (homeboy is still only 23!) and he’s rocked the party (or make that parties) from Ibiza to Sundance. He’s the first DJ to headline NYC’s Radio City Musical Hall and is a global ambassador for the exploding EDM scene. Oh. Avicii is not only nice on the wheels of steel but he models.

Cover Art for Listening to Music By Donna Kakonge – Photo Courtesy of Dreamstime.com

My best writing is done while listening to music. Music is my vice and my motivation. My parents are the reason why I love music so much. They used to take us on car trips when we were young. Every car ride with my dad we would listen to music on the radio or tapes. He would ask “Who’s this?” to quiz us and we would listen even more carefully to try and figure out who the artist is.

Calling all Canadian music gurus! Calling all couch potatoes who are feed-up with boring, mundane bands from Toronto! Calling those who “think” they know what is hip and fresh, but truly have no idea due to their pop-culture brainwashing…extra detergent! I’m talking about a band that, in my eyes…I should say ears, will be soon taking over the airwaves and the Junos in the very near future. I classify them as a well measured blend of Tegan and Sara, Hank Williams (the cool one…the original), and the White Stripes; they call themselves SIT DOWN TRACY! Read the rest of this entry »

I conclude this book after three days of starting it. I have only focused on three artists in this book, however I plan to do more books along this vain. I guess partly why I feel like finishing it now and I do feel like it is done is because India.Arie was singing “India’s Song.” She says, “I want to go where the rivers are high enough…to call my name.” This sounds great and everything – however I am still at that stage in my life where going down to Lake Ontario sounds quite exciting to me. I’m listening to Erykah Badu right now. I actually feel warmer by listening to her funky sounds. It’s Sunday, June 21, 2009 – Father’s Day. I put an ad in the Toronto Star to celebrate my Dad’s special day. I said “Happy Father’s Day” to my brother-in-law David and forgot today is also his birthday. I called my friend Tunde and wished him a “Happy Father’s Day.” He has a new baby. I do not know yet whether it is a boy or a girl. As they say, it is the health of the baby that really matters. Even that can be conquered sometimes. Read the rest of this entry »
